History
University Garden

This garden belongs to the University of the Azores, has an area of 1.5 hectares since 1976, the date of its inauguration.

It was built to be a private park for the palace.
2nd Visconde Palace / University of the Azores
This palace was acquired by the Aguiar family who sold it to the institute which later became a university.
As camélias podem ser cultivadas em solos ácidos, férteis e bem irrigados, à meia-sombra ou sob sol pleno. Não se adaptam a climas demasiado quentes e toleram geadas e neves. Suscetível ao ataque de cochonilhas.
Conhecido na Austrália como Tasmanian blue gum (pela cor azul-prateada das suas folhas juvenis), é a flor oficial da Tasmânia, local onde é nativo.
O cipreste-dos-cemitérios é uma árvore que se mantém verde todo o ano, pode atingir 35 m de altura. O seu tronco é geralmente recto e colunar, com casca cinzenta escura, fibrosa e estriada longitudinalmente.
